We are all aware of the emerging war for AI supremacy between leading tech companies. Giants like Amazon, Apple, Meta, Google, and Microsoft are all in the race.

But, it became more evident with Microsoft’s recent $10 billion investment in OpenAI. FYI, OpenAI is the company whose product ChatGPT took the internet by storm. It gained more than a million users within days for responding to prompts in a conversation.

Cut To Chase: Present-Day Situation

Undoubtedly, things are moving very fast at Amazon, Apple, Meta, Google, and Microsoft. Their research and development teams are leaving no stone unturned to integrate AI.

They have all gone wild and beyond to stay ahead in this race for AI dominance. In this post, we will learn about the latest AI developments from tech giants, one company at a time.

It’s time to take a look at the biggest war in technology in a very long time. Let’s dive in.

Microsoft

As obvious, Microsoft is powering Bing with OpenAI’s technology. They shot across the bow at other tech giants by revealing how they’re integrating AI with Bing.

Microsoft’s new Edge browser and Bing will be able to do three new things:

  • answer user’s questions
  • chat with users
  • create new things

Bing's latest AI features

So, the new Bing running on AI is much more powerful than ChatGPT and tuned specially for search. Since Microsoft already has a search engine, it’s a win-win situation for them. They can use their back-end web indexing and data to tie in with ChatGPT.

The results? They are awe-inspiring.

Go and type a complex query onto the new Bing interface. You’ll get the typical results on the left, and on the right, you’ll get a synthesized answer with sourcing. You can ask about current or future events and get the same experience.

But that’s the tip of the iceberg. The major feature was the new chat section. You can think of it as a synonym for regular search with your own personal helper.

It helps you refine your query until you get exactly what you’re looking for. This helps users in activities like trip planning, shopping research, learning topics, etc.

Just below the search bar, you have the new chat option, just a click away. When you enter Bing’s chat, you can talk to it and ask your questions until you get the relevant information.

The key difference between Bing’s regular search and chat is that you can be way more conversational and follow up with questions after you get your initial round of answers.

The chat system records all the context to be able to answer your questions better. But in case you want to sweep it, you can click on the broom icon next to the input bar. It will clean the slate altogether.

Next, Microsoft has also amalgamated AI into their Edge browser. It’s capable of doing many things, including summarising a large PDF or pulling answers from a web page.

You can even compare something you’re viewing with other stuff on the web, and much more. It can be a massive time saver for users, isn’t it?

There’s also a new compose tab where you can give a prompt and generate whatever content you like. You have to specify the tone length, format, length, etc., click on generate draft, and preview it quickly.

With Microsoft revealing its AI features, there’s no longer any doubt that the world has just changed. It’s the summation of human knowledge squeezed into an AI or at least the start of that.

Google

After Microsoft, Google came forward to launch its AI-powered chatbot, Bard. It’s a conversational AI that uses data from the internet in addition to LaMDA to deliver high-quality, fresh replies.

FYI, LaMDA stands for Language Model for Dialogue Applications. It utilizes Transformer, a neural network architecture developed by Google a few years back.

Google Bard AI features

You can use Google’s Bard to plan a trip, compare two products, and much more. Just enter your prompt and hit enter! But there is no news on whether Bard will integrate with other Google products in the future or not.

Besides this, Google has launched an AI picture generator, Imagen. It is similar to OpenAI’s Dall-E and creates photorealistic images from input text.

Technologically, it’s a text-to-image diffusion model with an exceptional degree of photorealism and a deep level of language understanding.

Google's text to image conversion

They also have MusicLM, an AI model that generates highly accurate music from the text. You can give rich text descriptions and generate audio at 24kHz. These remain consistent over several minutes.

The AI system also accepts single text prompts and sequences of text prompts. But, the most astonishing part is music generation for the image description input. You’ll get background music suitable for the image in no time. Bewildering!

Google’s newest AI technologies include MUM, LaMDA, PaLM, Imagen, and MusicLM. With it, Google is creating new ways to engage with information.

Be it text, image, video, or audio, they are trying to bring the latest AI advancements into their products. Let’s wait and watch what the future has in store.

Final Thoughts

Every walk of life is beginning to improve through artificial intelligence. Whether it is agriculture or healthcare or education, AI is leading the change. So, how can the world wide web and search stay behind?

The world is a witness to the internet’s evolution. From PCS and servers to accessibility on laptops, tablets, and smartphones, it has come a long way. But, it is not the end. It is the beginning of a new journey for them. With Google & Microsoft working tirelessly, we are sure that search will change forever.
